Abstract:
North Dakota is the largest producer of durum wheat in the USA, and fetches a premium in the market relative to other classes of wheat. In this presentation, we will review the trends in durum production and yield in North Dakota. We will consider the main challenges facing profitable durum production and provide information on the most recent research that has been conducted to address these problems. We will review recently concluded agronomic research on seeding rate and seeding date with the most recently release cultivars. We will present data to support the current recommendation on the integrated control of Fusarium Head Blight and other foliar disease. We will also discuss the potential challenge of marketing durum wheat with elevated cadmium levels and strategies for managing its accumulation.
