Symposium-- Improving Tools to Assess Climate Change Effects On Crop Response: C x T x W Data Sets and Model Intercomparisons
Oral Session
ASA Section: Climatology & Modeling
Climate change predictions link rising CO2 with shifts in many agriculturally production regions
and include changing T and rainfall patterns. However, the majority of our agricultural system modeling tools have not been adequately tested across such multiple factors. This lack is partly due to availability of experimental datasets. This half-day symposia will include presentations on i) available experimental data for major crops, including data that focuses on responses to extreme ranges of T or W stress at elevated CO2 and ii) results of the AgMIP crop model intercomparisons against common data sets. One of our goals is to summarize the current body of knowledge regarding major agronomic crop responses to C x T x W and capabilities of our models to respond appropriately to similar datasets and use this information to forge a path for both experimental and model improvement.
