Today's undergraduate students are more technologically savvy than ever before and voice that they prefer a "dynamic" classroom environment compared to the traditional lecture model. Furthermore, Universities and employers emphasize the importance of imparting strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to function in a team envrionment for their graduates. The challenge for educators is to engage this current tech-savvy generation of students in the classroom with meaningful assignments that meet those aforementioned University outcomes. One such way I have attempted to do this in the Introductory Turf Laboratory is a group assignment where group members create a dynamic YouTube video related to the characteristics and use of two common turf species. This presentation will provide an overview of how attendees might include a similar creative oral communication assignment in their own course.
