A Late Career Discovery That I'd like for the New Generation of Agronomists to Develop.

My invaluable collaborators and I are developing an alternative sustainable corn production methodology designed to

A. enable more chloroplasts to access more incident sunlight, B. make more efficient plant use of water and all other essential plant nutrients and C. enable the effective plant capture of more atmospheric CO2, water & essentially all available soil nutrients.

It does so by judicious deployment of 1.) an alternative planting arrangement that reorders canopy architecture and soil level in-field microclimate that enables greater reception of incident sunlight by mature chloroplasts throughout reproductive growth, 2.) a different basis for selecting corn varieties and other crops in the crop rotation, 3.) more clearly focused and extensive human effort by the farmer. 4.) a unique perception of tomorrow's production challenges that can be most fully addressed, developed and evaluated by those of you in the next generation.

Hybrid Specific Yield Results, to date, have affirmed the most optimistic of yield expectations and multiple parameters of enhanced sustainability have been published in Vol. 106(5), Agronomy Journal Vol. 106(5).The 180° Paradigm Shift could well be perceived to be disruptive to large scale modern, corn production, but has, nevertheless, continued the focus on maximizing sustainable returns per spatial unit of our most finite production resource - good arable farm land - while, simultaneously enhancing soil health relative to current state of the art practices.
