142 Developing Sustainable Bioenergy Cropping Systems: III

Poster Session
SSSA Division: Soil & Water Management & Conservation
This technical session will discuss the development of sustainable bioenergy cropping systems including dedicated bioenergy crop systems (herbaceous and woody plant species), forage-based cropping systems, and crop residue management. It will also cover the use of ameliorative practices such as biochar and cover crops to reduce any adverse effects of biomass removal on soil productivity and environmental quality. It will discuss establishment of growing dedicated bioenergy crop systems in marginal lands, modeling of bioenergy production systems, and development of other advanced bioenergy feedstocks. Implications of bioenergy cropping systems on biomass production, soil attributes, soil carbon pools, greenhouse gas emissions, and other parameters will be discussed.
